You have several ways to stay in touch with your team, keep up-to-date with your projects, and share timely information. Each method offers several advantages:
- Chat. Use chat to contact other BasicOps users for one-to-one or group conversations in real-time. You can chat with any BasicOps users about a specific project or task or about an issue unrelated to a project or task, from last night’s episode of “Game of Thrones” to where to go for lunch. We notify all chat participants of the chat in BasicOps and via email (if they’ve enabled notifications) so they know about the chat even if they’re not active on BasicOps. Unlike other forms of communication, chat messages can’t be edited or deleted.
- Discussions. Discussions are an efficient way to collaborate with your team. If you’re looking for comments from team members about a project or task, and you want to keep those comments with the project or task, start a discussion. When you start a discussion, we notify all team members (if they’ve enabled notifications) of the discussion and any replies to it; you don’t have to select individual participants in the discussion. Any team member can take part in the discussion and add relevant files.

Mentioning names with @
If you want to grab your teammate's attention, mentioned them in a chat message, discussion, or project or task description by using @. Using @ before a name notifies the user in My Feed. Click the Mentions tab to see all mentions.
How to use mentions
- Type @ and begin typing the name.
- Select the user from the dropdown.
Creating a link to a project or task
However you’re communicating in BasicOps, you can provide others with a direct link to a project or task using a hashtag (#). You can use hashtags in chats, discussions, notes, or descriptions.
How to use links
- Type # and begin typing the project or task name.
- Select the project or task from the dropdown.
Searching for a chat message, discussion, or description
As a project grows, so will the information about it. If you’re looking for a specific chat message, discussion, note, or description, search for it.
How to use search
- Click Search from the left sidebar.
- Type in a keyword. This can be the name of a user, a project, task, or conversation.
We’ll search through chat messages, project and task discussions, and descriptions as well as task notes to find matches.
